Our Smart Phone App Now Includes Fish Recipes.

As part of the What Fish UK Smartphone App we offer lots of fantastic sea fish recipes along with cooking instructions for each of our edible species. This recipe is for Roast Bass with Sweet Potato.
The quick and easy to cook dish uses fresh caught Bass and serves 2 people.

Ingredients:

1 x Bass (Recipe is based on a 3lb fish)
2 x Sweet potatoes.
3 x Tomatoes.
2 x Garlic cloves.
3 x Tablespoons of Olive Oil.
1 x Tablespoon of chopped Dill.
1 x Tablespoon of Thyme leaves.
Ground Black Pepper & Salt to suit.

Cooking Method:

To prepare the Bass preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6.
Clean the Bass and de-scale it, then cut off all remaining fins and remove the head from behind the gill plates.
Next, cut 5 slashes into the skin of the Bass each side and then rub one tablespoon of olive oil along with all of the chopped dill, salt and black pepper and half of the thyme leaves, onto the fish.
Leave the Bass for 10 minutes to let the flavours marinate.
To prepare the potatoes and tomatoes, pour two tablespoons of olive oil into a large heavy-bottomed ovenproof pan.
Peel and slice the potatoes and put them in layers into the pan.
Next, slice the tomatoes, place them on top of the sliced potatoes and sprinkle with chopped Garlic and the remainder of the thyme.
Once the fish has had time to soak up the oil and herbs place it on top of the layered vegetables.
Place the pan into the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes.
You will know when the dish is ready because the fish will be cooked thoroughly and the potatoes will be soft.
To serve, take out the fish, remove the bones and divide the fish into two pieces and layer each section onto the vegetables on two serving plates.

If you like the idea of cooking and eating your catch you will find our very tasty recipies easy to cook.

Feedback - What The Pro’s Had To Say:

The development team at ‘What Fish UK’ produced the Sea Fishing Smartphone App to suit their own needs and answer the questions that they had while out fishing. On its release we were very keen to see what the well know current professional anglers had to say about it. We wanted input from Shore, Boat, Kayak and Lure anglers to make sure that we have supplied relevant information for almost every form of UK Salt Water Fishing.

Here is what they had to say...

What Fish UK app and LRF (Light Rock Fishing) go hand in hand, keeping your tackle light an keeping on the move is essential, to be able to carry a encyclopedia of knowledge in my pocket is a testament to modern technology. As a passionate LRF angler never knowing what I might catch next, What Fish UK has saved me hours identifying mini-species while out on the water. Being able to identify an appreciate my catches at the touch of a screen has been an incredible help when writing the Next Generation Angling blog, providing accurate pictures, size limits an descriptions. What Fish UK has given me an edge to my angling education

Will Harding - LRF Guru and author of Next Generation Angling.

WFUK App For Kayak Fishing.

If you own a Kayak and fancy trying a spot of fishing or have been kayak fishing for a while the What Fish UK Smartphone Fishing App will act as a fantastic information source and really help improve your angling while you are on the move.

Our angling app has hundreds of useful sections of information for Kayak anglers from the latest rigs and baits to use right down to the location of certain species. We offer rig descriptions and illustrations such as this one below.

The above rig is perfect for fishing from the Kayak for Rays.
The app also offer the best portable fish recognition guide on the market today with by far the most species, it also offer a massive live fish image gallery specifically designed for fish recognition.

We have also taken the time to offer you an up to date list of minimum Boat/Kayak fishing fish limits to insure you do not take home undersized fish, this list has been correlated from many angling sources and is very accurate. The App also has a list of the current British Record Shore/Boat and Kayak caught fish, this list has been taken from the Angling Trust who are responsible for keeping the UK’s record fish lists.  We also show you the fish species that you cannot eat; this can be because of something simple like they are too small, too bony or because the species is showing a decline in numbers. We are firm promoters of conservation and the idea of sports fishing for various species and releasing them unharmed is high on our priority list. If the species is sustainable we do offer a recipe for each species, these fish dishes always taste better when you have caught and cleaned the fish yourself.

Salt water fishing from a Kayak is growing in popularity around the UK and we believe that it will continue to be a growth sport. There are various Kayak Fishing Forums online that will offer you help and information to keep you safe and help you enjoy your sport.
We are keen to sponsor the Swanage based Kayak Species competition that is held once a year as we think that it is a very positive step towards competitive angling from Kayaks and it also looks like great fun!

We have various images on the live fish gallery from Kayak anglers but we are always keen to have more, if you have any species pictures that you would be willing to share then please send them to us at whatfishuk@gmail.com.
